The western desert

The western desert covers an area 680.00 Sq . kms. And is composed of sand dunes and a range of cliffs , with an average height of 1500 Ft. extending from Nile valley to the Egyptian borders with the Republic of Libya on the west and from Mediterranean sea on the north to the southern borders of Egypt . It is distinguished with :

A-The biggest depression in the world "Qattara depression"

B-Various Numbers of Oases  “Siwa, Qara ,El-Baharariya - Farfra , Dakhla and Kharga “

C-Small depression: Sitra, Nawamisa ,and  Bahrein forsaken oases.

D-The most and great enormous space of sandy dunes “ The Bgreatest sand sea “

E- "EL GIF EL KABIER" Located in west south which is considered one of dry and dead area in the world .

F-Comprising the longest dunes in the world  "ABU MOHAREK".

G-Contains many monuments date back to different ages of P.C , Pharoanic , Coptic and Islamic eras .

H-Relics of stone man , numerous of temples Amon temple Habis temple –El Ghoty – and some interested tourist sightseeing as EL DIAR  tombs and Siwa  and old masque .

I-Number of water wills and springs used as rheumatic diseases therapy and medical treatment

J-Number of hot water springs reaching a temperature of 49 c . as  Mut – El Kasrn aqnd Boulak  .

K-Some salty lakes of fascinating views as Sitra and El Baharein .

L-Dunes for natural therapy for many diseases .

M-Variety of desert animals , planets and brides

- Bahariya Oases

Located 365 km south west of Giza and 200 km from Farafra Oasis . The Oases are famous for theirpalm trees , olives , apricots , rice and corn. Intertwined trees provide attractive scenery with contrast to massive sand dunes . The region is rich in wildlife of migrant birds and deer . Bawiti is the capital of Bahriya oases that occupies a hillside . the oases are famous for their 398 mineraland sulphur springs . the most famous are Bir Hakima , Bir Halfa , Bir Al Matar , and Bir El Ghaba . the old Roman springs flow through cracked stones.Ein El Bshmo springs are unique because both hot and cold waret flow from separate sources then blend in a rocky creek , in addition to Al Qasaa wells.Bahhariya Oasesarchaeological sites date back to pharaonic periods. “zis zis” was the original  name of the region . Most of the antiquities belong to the 26th dynasty “Saite period” . A major archaeological site El Qasr houses ein El Mifatala , Qarat Helwa and Al Tibniya area that includes Alexander the great temple . El Maron , El Dist and El Maghrafa antiquities are located next to a limestone temple in El Qasr area > El Bawiti houses , the largest ptolemic necropolis dedicated to ibis bird . Its historic tombs are located in the complex of ( Youssef Selim , el Sheikh Soby and Al Farouj ) .

El Heez area is famous for its ancient churches , palaces and Roman tombs Binantiew tomb dates back to 26th dynasty and represents unique pharaonic paintings , ‘ valley of the Golden Mummies “ has been recently discovered in a Roman necropolis , 6 km from Bawiti.

Visitors can arrange safari trips to the oases while enjoying Bedouin folklore in the evenings . Bahariya oases are connected with Siwa and Farafra oases through a motorway.
